A meeting was held with the Chairman of the Japan-Turkmen Committee for Economic Cooperation

On 6 June 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Chairman of the Turkmen-Japanese Committee on Economic Cooperation Rashid Meredov met with the Chairman of the Japan-Turkmen Committee on Economic Cooperation Hiroyuki Tsubai via videoconference.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of further development of bilateral relations, where they noted the high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan, particularly in the trade and economic sphere. In this regard, it was pointed out that the active work of the existing committees on economic cooperation is an important mechanism of this interaction.

Within the framework of the meeting, the sides noted that the highest and high-level contacts play an important role in the development of interstate relations. In this regard, the importance of the visit and meaningful meetings of the Turkmen delegation led by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Japan in September 2022 was highlighted.

The sides discussed the possibility of implementing new projects in the oil and gas, chemical and agricultural sectors, as well as the progress in the implementation of previously reached agreements. In addition, the talks focused on further development of cooperation in the field of energy, gas chemical industry, carbon neutrality and reduction of methane emissions.

The Committee Chairs also discussed the state of preparations for the forthcoming summit "Central Asia + Japan" to be held in Astana in August of this year.

In conclusion, the sides exchanged views on the organisational issues of the forthcoming 15th meeting of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japanese-Turkmen Committees on Economic Cooperation.
