Representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan took part in the international conference on assessing greenhouse gas emissions using the GOSAT satellite, held on February 3-4, 2025, in Tokyo, Japan.

During the conference, representatives from Central Asian countries, Japan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Mongolia discussed the potential of utilizing satellite data for conducting greenhouse gas inventories.

Mergen Yusupov, Deputy Head of the Department on Coordination of International Environmental Cooperation and Project of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, delivered a presentation on the key directions of Turkmenistan’s state environmental policy, including measures implemented under the country’s National Strategy on Climate Change. In his speech, he highlighted Turkmenistan’s efforts to address climate change and emphasized the international initiatives proposed by the Esteemed President of Turkmenistan.

During the conference, Turkmenistan’s representatives exchanged experiences with delegates from other countries and discussed opportunities for bilateral cooperation. The importance of methodologies used in greenhouse gas inventories and the application of digital technologies in this field was also emphasized.
