TURKMENISTAN'S INITIATIVES HAVE OPENED UP NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION IN THE TRANSPORT SECTOR

On August 16, the International Conference at the level of Ministers of Transport of Landlocked Developing Countries, organized by the Government of Turkmenistan under the auspices of the United Nations, on the theme “Ashgabat Process: Funding for Better Connectivity” completed its work in the Avaza National Tourist Zone.

During the past plenary sessions on the topics: “Development of transport corridors, regional interconnectedness, integrated multimodal transport systems and the inextricable link between transport and trade”, “Perfect transit traffic and trade facilitation, as well as strengthening the digital system for a sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic ”, “Reliable transportation, building environmentally sustainable transport systems, climate change adaptation and mitigation - experience and best practices”, “Transport and information sustainability, as well as strengthening cooperation for road safety”, the delegates expressed their deep gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and The Government of Turkmenistan for the high level of holding this important Conference.

The sessions discussed such topics as the current state of air, road, rail and sea transport, the prospects for the development of this segment of the world economy, the possibility of attracting investments in industry infrastructure, the introduction of innovations, and the main aspects of environmental protection and security.

At the same time, the importance of new proposals voiced by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the first day of the forum was emphasized, in particular, on the creation of a special working group under the auspices of the UN that will defend the interests of LLDCs, the development of a General Assembly Resolution “On enhancing the role of landlocked developing countries , in the development and strengthening of global transport cooperation”.

At the end of the forum, the Final Statement of the International Conference of Ministers of Transport of Landlocked Developing Countries was adopted.

During the final session, the results of the work carried out by the forum delegates for two days were summed up. The solid composition of the participants, a wide range of issues discussed, the initiatives voiced, the proposed practical steps and recommendations clearly demonstrated the commonality of approaches and goals aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the field of sustainable transport for the sake of peace, development and progress.
