BRIEFING ON UN SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION, AIMED AT CONSOLIDATION OF EFFORTS OF THE MEMBER-STATES OF THE UNITED NATIONS IN MATTERS OF INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT FOR AFGHANISTAN
On March 13, 2018, a briefing on the resolution of the United Nations Security Council aimed at further consolidating the efforts of the UN member states in international support for Afghanistan, adopted on March 8, 2018 was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The briefing was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan jointly with the Institute of international relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The briefing was attended by representatives of the local media, diplomats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, foreign journalists accredited in Turkmenistan and students of the faculty of international journalism of the Institute of international relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the briefing, detailed information was provided on the UN Security Council resolution aimed at further consolidating the efforts of the UN member states in matters of international support for Afghanistan. They particularly noted the fact that the Security Council welcomed and strongly urged all states to take further steps to strengthen the process of regional economic cooperation, including regional development initiatives, such as the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey the Lapis Lazuli Transit, Trade and Transport Route Agreement and the railway segments from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.
The speeches specifically noted the words of the distinguished President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, said in the Address to the Turkmen people that "this resolution is recognition of Turkmenistan's achievements in strengthening large-scale international cooperation in Central Asia and its neighboring regions. This document provides us with an opportunity to confidently implement joint long-term plans and the strategy of interaction with this largest international organization".
