Priorities of activity of Interdepartmental Commission for provision of human rights outlined

The Institute of State, Law and Democracy hosted regular session of Interdepartmental Commission for provision of international obligations of Turkmenistan in human rights and international humanitarian law. Representatives of the Mejlis, ministries, departments and public organizations took part in the meeting.

The agenda included discussion of objectives related to realization of initiatives in human rights and international humanitarian law spheres, which were proposed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at International Conference “Turkmenistan and International Organizations: Cooperation for Peace and Development”, which was held on January 14, implementation of documents signed during the forum.

Participants of the session have also summed up outcomes of work performed by Interdepartmental Commission in 2019. Improvement of legal sphere of the country, fulfilment of international obligations in the sphere of human rights and freedoms, development of draft national programmes and action plans are among the main directions of activity of this structure.

The participants of the session have discussed priorities of coming work for improvement of activity of the government organizations and public associations in the sphere of provision of human rights and implementation of standards of international humanitarian law.

Importance of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations, which is successfully developed including in such important direction as human rights, has been highlighted.

Under the main objectives of 2030 Global Agenda, the participants of the session have discussed coming work for implementation of National Action Plan for Human Rights in Turkmenistan in 2016 -2020, National Action Plan for Gender Equality in Turkmenistan in 2015 – 2020, National Action Plan for Realization of Children Rights in Turkmenistan in 2018 – 2022, National Action Plan for Early Child Development in Turkmenistan in 2020 – 2025, National Action Plan for Counteraction of Human Trafficking in Turkmenistan in 2020 – 2022 and other programme activities approved by the Resolutions of the Head of the State.

Analysis of existing legislation, development of relative recommednations, improvement of awareness of the population of national legislation, which is aimed at provision of the main rights and freedoms of human, are among the main directions of activity of Interdepartmental Commission.

In this regard, importance of further development and strengthening of efficient relations with international organizations has been noted. Members of the Commission have informed about regular seminars, meetings and consultations for development of national reports, reviews and study of advanced practice in human rights protection sphere according to the UN international documents.
