THE ISSUES OF MITIGATION OF THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THE PANDEMIC IN THE COUNTRY WERE DISCUSSED AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

On May 14, 2020, a working meeting was held in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to discuss the impact of especially dangerous infectious diseases on the socio-economic situation in the region and Turkmenistan.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Economics, Labor and Social Welfare, Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, as well as the State Statistics Committee and the Central Bank of Turkmenistan.

The representatives of the United Nations and its divisions, including experts from the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Islamic Development Bank in Turkmenistan also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place regarding the analysis of the impact of the global crisis caused by the pandemic of a new type of coronavirus on the development of small and medium-sized businesses in the country, on employment issues, as well as on macroeconomic parameters, such as GDP growth, inflation, fiscal and trade balances.

Also at the meeting, experts described the main findings of an internal analysis of the possible socio-economic impact of the pandemic in the Central Asian region, prepared by the UN country team and the UN Economic Commission for Europe.
