First autobahn Ashgabat – Turkmenbashy to open in September 2020
Speed highway Ashgabat – Turkmenbashy is built by «Polimeks Insaat Taahhut we Sanayi Ticaret A.S.». Turkish constructors will build railway bridge and cloverleaf junction on the 24th kilometre of Ashgabat – Dashoguz highway, which will connect existing with initial point of new autobahn by bridges. After competition of geological and geodesic survey excavation of earth and levelling of the road are carried out. Future road is designated exclusively for high-speed traffic, the coordinator of the project highlighted in the conversation. Around 60 large and small multi-level flyovers and more than 70 underpasses, the bridges across mud streams and Karakum River will be built on the road.
Besides, 9 road intersections of piped configuration that are to connect the highway with Gyoktepe, Archman resort, cities of Serdar, Bereket, Balkanabat, Belek and Yangaja settlements will be built along the autobahn. It will be possible to get directly to new port via Yangaja settlement (Balkan Vellayat) what will give an opportunity to improve the quality of logistic services. Besides, after the roundabout that is to be built next to the airport in Turkmenbashy, the motorists will be able to exit the autobahn to the highway going to the city centre.
This autobahn is the first project of the kind in Turkmenistan and have no analogues in road construction in the country. Three-lane highway is 34.5 metres wide. Each side of the road will have emergency lane, ditch and metal fence to prevent animals and people entering the road.
According to the project by Polimeks, entire highway will be built taking into account high world standards. Entry and exit to the highway will be equipped with toll points. The payment will be available by cash or bankcards. Small toll points will be placed on highway entry from other cities along the way. There also will be traffic police stations equipped with surveillance cameras, service and maintenance garages.
Every 50 km of each side of the motorway will have car parking and recreation zones for drivers and passengers. Large recreation centres with shops, restaurants, motels, covered and open parking, fuel stations and other facilities will be built on 201st and 420th kilometres of the highway.
Displays informing the motorists on weather, road conditions and speed limits on this particular part of the road will be installed along the road. There will be telephone booths every two kilometres for calling evacuation trucks, traffic police and road maintenance services.
The construction of Ashgabat – Turkmenbashy autobahn will give an opportunity to improves the quality of logistic services, expand international transit and transport infrastructure, increase trade turnover with neighbouring countries, volume exports and transit of goods taking into account capabilities of Turkmenbashy International Seaport. The representative of the client, the Ministry of Automobile Transport of Turkmenistan, has informed that Ashgabat – Turkmenbashy autobahn will be opened in September 2020.
