THE SIGNING CEREMONY OF THE WORK PLAN BETWEEN UNDP AND THE INSTITUTE OF STATE, LAW AND DEMOCRACY OF TURKMENISTAN TOOK PLACE AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN
On October 2, 2020, a ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to sign the Work Plan for a project to assist in the implementation of the National Action Plan of Turkmenistan in the field of human rights for 2020 between the UNDP Office in Turkmenistan and the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan.
On the Turkmen side, the document was signed by the Director of the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, Yagmur Nuryev. On the part of UNDP, the document was signed by the acting UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan Natia Natsvlishvili.
The main goal of the project is to strengthen the protection, promotion and realization of human rights in Turkmenistan by harmonizing laws, policies and practices in accordance with the country's obligations under international human rights treaties and implementing the National Action Plan of Turkmenistan in the field of human rights for 2016-2020.
Within the framework of this project, it is planned to assist the Government of Turkmenistan in the implementation of the National Action Plan on Human Rights for 2016-2020, and the development of a draft National Human Rights Action Plan for 2021-2025.
The signed work plan will provide an opportunity to assess the implementation of this project, study international experience in the preparation of national periodic reports to the UN human rights treaty bodies and the development of a draft new Action Plan, as well as raise awareness of human rights among government officials, students and the population.
