On 13 November 2017, a signing ceremony of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) took place at the premises of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in Ashgabat, in particular:
between the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), represented by the Regional Programme "Transboundary Water Management in Central Asia (TWM CA)", and
between the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and Central Asian Regional Environmental Center (CAREC).
The ceremony took place in a formal way with the participation of representatives of the ministries and state agencies of Turkmenistan as well as international organizations.
The main goal of the memoranda is to provide support for fostering regional water cooperation in Central Asia, improving the socio-economic and environmental situation in the Aral Sea basin, as well contributing technical assistance.
Upon signing the memoranda, the sides expressed assurances that these documents will bring an additional impact for expanding and strengthening regional water cooperation, which in its turn, will benefit the people of the Aral Sea basin region.
