INTERNATIONAL NOVRUZ DAY CELEBRATED IN TOKYO
On March 18, 2022, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Japan celebrated International Novruz Day as part of cultural events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Japan.
The event was co-organized by the Aktiv International Association, which was attended by Turkmen diplomats, as well as Japanese citizens involved in culture, art and business.
Speaking at the opening of the event, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Japan G. Elyasov noted that the roots of the National Spring Festival go back centuries, and Navruz is one of the ancient holidays of many peoples of the world, including the Turkmen people.
Noting that the celebration of Navruz in 2009 was included by UNESCO in the list of outstanding examples of the intangible cultural heritage of mankind, he said that in 2010, by resolution of the UN General Assembly, March 21 of each year was declared as the International Day of Navruz.
The participants of the event were also informed about Independent, Permanently Neutral Turkmenistan, the achievements of the 30-year-old Turkmen-Japanese friendship, Turkmen cultural heritage, traditions, national costumes and dishes.
During the event, the guests were introduced to the preparation of Turkmen plav and offered Turkmen dishes. At the end of the event, Turkmen songs were performed on the dutar by Japanese performers.
