The conference was a continuation of the joint round table held in March 2021 in Ashgabat on the eve of the COP26 conference, held last November in the British city of Glasgow.
The purpose of this event was to discuss the main steps to implement the decisions taken at COP-26, and ways to enhance cooperation in promoting the Glasgow Climate Pact.
The conference was attended by representatives of the ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, the British Embassy, the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, foreign diplomatic missions, international organizations, international development partners and students. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan moderated the conference.
In Turkmenistan, environmental protection is one of the priorities of the state policy. A lot of work is being done in the country in the field of environmental protection and rational use of natural resources, but it is the problems associated with climate change that pose new challenges for us, forcing us to modernize already adopted national plans and develop new ones.
Turkmenistan defines climate change as an integral part of the sustainable development of the country. In this regard, the country has adopted a number of important laws, programs and strategies aimed at sustainable development, taking into account climate change.
This conference has become a platform on which new initiatives were announced for interaction between national and international partners in the field of combating climate change and will serve as an impetus for accelerating the transition of Turkmenistan to a low-carbon, more resource-efficient and sustainable economy.
