THE DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN TAKES PART IN THE WORK OF THE REGIONAL SUMMIT ON THE SDGS IN ALMATY
On June 16, 2022, the Second Regional Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals in the countries of Central Asia began its work in Almaty on the theme “Beyond COVID - Towards Just Recovery in Central Asia”. The summit was organized by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Kazakhstan with the financial support of the European Union and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers M. Mukhammedov participates in the work of the summit.
The second regional summit is attended by heads of the governments of the Central Asian countries, international experts, representatives of international organizations, private sector and civil society.
The agenda is very rich and includes priority economic, environmental and social issues that are of fundamental importance for the SDGs. Speaking at the opening of the forum, M. Mukhammedov noted that Turkmenistan, in order to improve the recovery of the economies of the countries of the region after the pandemic, is in favor of accelerating the implementation of the decisions of the Addis Ababa Action Program on financing for development in order to mobilize and effectively use the resources necessary to achieve the SDGs.
He also emphasized the expediency of organizing the next International Conference on Financing for Development, and assured that Turkmenistan would continue to promote the issue of ensuring proper funding in the implementation of Global programs and strategies, the main of which is the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
