Turkmenistan and ADB signed Agreement regarding nursing school in Ashgabat
During the visit of Masato Kanda, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), to Ashgabat, a meeting was held at the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan, following which two documents were signed, opening a new page in social partnership.
During the meeting, an agreement was signed between Turkmenistan and the ADB on financing the construction of a secondary medical training high school in Ashgabat, as well as a document on technical support between the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the Bank.
According to the ADB, the agreement involves the allocation of $77 million for the implementation of a project to improve the quality of training and increase the number of nurses and midwives.
Of this amount, $75 million will be provided as a loan and $2 million as a grant from the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Sustainable Asia. The total cost of the project is estimated at $98 million, including co-financing by the Government of Turkmenistan.
This project, which is the ADB’s first health initiative in Turkmenistan, involves the design and construction of a new, climate-resilient building for the Ashgabat School of Nursing.
The building will be equipped with modern simulation laboratories, dormitories and other advanced resources for practical training. Technical support will focus on updating curricula and upgrading the skills of teachers in line with international standards.
