Representatives of Turkmenportal and Mitsubishi Discussed Prospects for Cooperation in Tokyo

Representatives of Turkmenportal and the Japanese company “Mitsubishi Corporation” met in Tokyo, where they discussed the history of the company’s cooperation with Turkmenistan and the prospects for its further development. The meeting took place as part of a program inviting representatives of foreign media, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan with the support of the Embassy of Japan in Ashgabat.

During the meeting, a representative of Mitsubishi Corporation’s Global Planning & Coordination Department (EMEA Region) introduced the company’s main areas of business and spoke about its long-standing cooperation with Turkmenistan.

“Mitsubishi Corporation” is one of Japan’s leading general trading companies. Its history dates back to 1954, and its headquarters are located in the Marunouchi business district of Tokyo. The company's operations are organized into seven business groups covering areas such as GX (Green Transformation and Energy), mineral resources, social infrastructure and urban development, mobility, the food industry, and other sectors. The company conducts business activities around the world.

For many years, “Mitsubishi Corporation” has cooperated with Turkmenistan, particularly in the energy, industrial, and chemical sectors. Over the years, the company and its affiliated organizations have participated in projects to construct ammonia and urea production plants in the country. It has also established a representative office in Turkmenistan to promote long-term partnership.

According to previously published information, in May 2026, during “The White City Ashgabat 2026” International Exhibition and Conference, the State Concern “Turkmenhimiya” signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a consortium comprising “Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd.”, “Mitsubishi Corporation Machinery Inc.”, and the Turkish company “Çalık Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş”. The memorandum provides for the technical maintenance and repair of the Garabogazkarbamid Ammonia-Urea Plant.

In addition, a project is currently being implemented for the State Concern “Turkmenhimiya” to construct a new ammonia and urea production complex in the Balkan Velayat. The project is being carried out by “Mitsubishi Heavy Industries” and the Turkish company “Gap İnşaat”, in cooperation with “Mitsubishi Corporation”.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their interest in further strengthening business ties and expanding cooperation between Japan and Turkmenistan.
