Taking into account the importance of friendly relations with Turkmenistan, the Government of Japan decided to become a co-sponsor of the UN resolution "Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan", which was adopted on 21 March 2025 at the 61st plenary meeting of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, the Resolution “Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan” under Agenda item 61 “Peacebuilding and Peacekeeping”.

It is noted that Neutrality is rooted in both the country's foreign and domestic policies, is enshrined in the Constitutional Act on permanent neutrality and is based on the historical heritage and traditions of the Turkmen people, which place peace, dialogue and mutual respect at the heart of State-building.

It should be noted that Turkmenistan and Japan are currently actively cooperating in the political and diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

A vivid example of confirmation of this is the regular contacts between the leaders of the two countries, during which the parties express their constant support for the initiatives of Turkmenistan and Japan in major international organisations, as well as conduct practical work in the “Central Asia + Japan” Dialogue format.

In April 2025, a high-level delegation from Turkmenistan is expected to attend the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. A solemn celebration of the Turkmenistan National Day will be held on 14 April at the Expo. The parties intend to sign a number of documents aimed at further strengthening relations in various areas of bilateral partnership.
