Turkmenistan ranked first in total number of medals at the 2023 Kurash World Cup
The 14th World Kurash Wrestling Championship ended in the Sports Complex of Martial Arts in Ashgabat's Olympic City. More than 200 wrestlers from about 50 countries took part in it.
According to the results of the competition, the national team of Turkmenistan showed the best result in terms of the total number of medals won. Turkmen athletes won 15 awards: 5 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze.
Dinara Rozykulova (up to 63 kg), Maria Lokhova (up to 70 kg), Sabina Kadyrova (up to 78 kg), Vepa Ovlyakulyev (up to 60 kg) and Dayanch Omirov (up to 81 kg) brought gold medals to the Turkmen team.
Silver medals in the team of Turkmenistan were awarded to Aishirin Haydarova (up to 48 kg), Ainur Amanova (up to 52 kg), Sanzhar Abdyrakhmanov (up to 90 kg), Jahan Muhammedova (up to 87 kg), Sabina Agadjanova (over 87 kg) and Shatlyk Jumaniyazov (up to 73 kg).
Ruslan Esgerov (up to 100 kg), Sapa Sapaev (over 100 kg), Gulshat Annaeva (up to 57 kg) and Dovlet Khamrakulyev (up to 66 kg) became bronze medalists in the Turkmenistan team.
It should be noted that the World Cup of Kurash in Ashgabat became a record in the number of medals in the history of performances of Turkmen athletes at world championships. Last year, Turkmen Kurash masters won one silver and two bronze medals at the World Championship in India.
Kurash is a traditional belt wrestling of Turkic peoples, which originated in Central Asia. This martial art has a three-thousand-year history, which made it one of the most popular sports not only in the region, but also in the world.
