The President of Turkmenistan received the OSCE Secretary General
On March 5, 2024, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Helga Schmid.
The head of state emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to consolidating efforts to ensure peace, security and sustainable development on the planet, whose foreign policy is based on the principles of positive neutrality. In this regard, one of the priorities is to strengthen interaction with major international organizations such as the OSCE.
The President expressed confidence that the meeting of the OSCE Secretary General and the ministers of environmental protection of the Central Asian countries, held on March 4 in Ashgabat, will serve to intensify dialogue in the environmental sphere.
Further, the purposeful comprehensive work of Turkmenistan in the environmental field in Turkmenistan was stated, as well as our country’s commitment to multilateral partnership in the fields of ecology and environmental protection.
Evidence of this is the announcement of Turkmenistan to join the Global Methane Commitment at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change last December in Dubai. Another example is the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan to create in our country a Regional Center for Technologies related to Climate Change in Central Asia, announced at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
During the exchange of views on key issues of cooperation, it was noted that Turkmenistan, advocating active interaction in order to maintain peace, security and sustainable development in the regional and global dimensions, is committed to a close partnership with the OSCE in countering modern challenges and threats.
The energy sector was identified as another promising area. In this context, the head of Turkmenistan spoke in favor of carrying out specific work within the OSCE to bring energy resources to the world market and transit, including political, financial and environmental aspects.
The parties also noted the prospects of cooperation in the transport sector. At the same time, Turkmenistan’s readiness to expand partnership with the OSCE in specific areas was confirmed.
