The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Japan discussed bilateral co-operation by telephone conversation

On 8 November 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov had a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Takeshi Iwai.
During the conversation, the parties discussed key issues of bilateral cooperation in political and diplomatic, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
A high level of interstate ties based on a trusting dialogue at the highest political level was noted. In this regard, the interlocutors noted the importance of joint preparations for the upcoming first Summit ‘Central Asia + Japan’ at the level of heads of state.
The sides stressed the importance of continuing co-operation between the foreign ministries of the two countries. The sides exchanged views on the agenda of the next inter-ministerial consultations to be held in the near future.
The ministers also noted the importance of partnership between the two countries in the trade and economic sphere. The Japanese companies expressed interest in developing cooperation with Turkmenistan, particularly in such areas as green energy, decarbonisation, gas chemistry and others.  In this regard, the importance of the activities of the joint committees on economic cooperation was emphasised.
In addition, the sides exchanged views on the upcoming events with the participation of both countries.  The sides also discussed the prospects of participation of the Turkmen delegation in the World Expo 2025 in Osaka.
