Scientific and technological areas of Turkmen-Japanese cooperation discussed in Tokyo
On October 3-4, 2025, a delegation headed by the rector of the Oguzhan G.Mezilov Turkmenistan University of Engineering and Technology visited Tokyo, Japan.
During the visit, the delegation held a series of meetings with representatives of government institutions, organizations, and companies operating in Japan’s scientific and technological sectors.
On October 3, 2025, the Turkmen delegation met with D.Ueda, Director of the Higher Education and Social Security Group of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The meeting focused on expanding cooperation in the fields of science and education, continuing the implementation of training programs and professional development projects developed by JICA for faculty and students of higher educational institutions in Turkmenistan. The expansion of academic exchange programs within the framework of technical cooperation with the agency was also noted.
On the same day in Tokyo, G.Mezilov, Rector of the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan met with K.Nagai, Deputy Director of the Innovation Center for Nanomedicine at the Kawasaki Institute of Industrial Promotion.
The sides exchanged views on current trends in the development of nanomedicine, its role in the humanitarian field, and discussed the outcomes of leading scientific research conducted in Japan in this area.
The Turkmen delegation noted the great importance placed on the introduction of advanced nanotechnologies into the science and education sectors of Turkmenistan, as well as the training of young scientists in this field.
In this regard, a proposal was made to organize internships for Turkmen students majoring in nanotechnology at the mentioned center and to develop joint scientific research projects.
During the visit, the Turkmen delegation also held meetings with the chairman of the Turkmen-Japanese Association for Scientific and Technical Cooperation H.Koinuma, and representatives of the association. During the meeting, they talked about the state of Turkmen-Japanese scientific and technical cooperation, as well as creating new areas of cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, organizing joint scientific conferences and training sessions, and expanding academic exchange programs for teachers and students.
On October 3, the Turkmen delegation held a meeting with M.Yamazumi, Section Manager of the Japanese corporation Tohkemy Corporation.
The meeting addressed the prospects for scientific and technological cooperation in the field of high technology and industry. In particular, special attention was paid to the introduction of the corporation’s advanced technologies in Turkmenistan, experience exchange for university students in relevant fields, and collaboration on research projects.
In this context, the parties discussed conducting joint research on a water purification system project, aimed at implementing the goals outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan and Tohkemy Corporation.
