THE FIFTH COORDINATION COMMITTEE MEETING ON THE ON THE SERIAL NOMINATION OF THE WORLD HERITAGE OF THE SILK ROAD ON THE UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE LIST BEGAN ITS WORK

On December 4-5, 2018, the Fifth meeting of the Coordination Committee on the Serial Nomination of the World Heritage of the Silk Road on the UNESCO World Heritage List began at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, which will continue until December 5, 2018.

This meeting was attended by the representatives of the national coordination centers and experts from fourteen countries that are members of the Intergovernmental Coordination Committee on the Serial Nomination of the Silk Road on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and Bhutan as an observer. In addition, representatives of UNESCO, as well as international experts, including experts from the International Conservation Center ICOMOS, Xi'an (China), were invited to participate in this meeting to provide advice.

A film and a presentation on the theme “Turkmenistan - the heart of the Great Silk Road” was shown at the opening ceremony of the meeting.

The results of the efforts of the participating States were examined, the national tentative lists of sites for serial assignment of the Silk Road to the Cultural Heritage List were discussed and coordinated, and also the importance of the international legal framework, including the role and experience of international organizations in this area was considered at the meeting.

Participants also exchanged views on the selection of new co-chairs, as well as on the timing and location of the next Sixth Coordination Committee Meeting.
