TURKMENISTAN AND SINGAPORE ADHERE TO THE EXPANSION OF MULTILATERAL COOPERATION

As is known, on August 26, 2019, the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Singapore has started. 

On August 27, a meeting was held in the “Istana” Palace of the President of the Republic of Singapore between the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of Singapore Mrs.Halimah Yacob.  During the meeting in participation of the governmental delegations of the two countries, the Leader of Turkmen state expressed gratitude to the Singapore side for the invitation to visit the Republic of Singapore.  The parties noted that the current, first state visit of Turkmen Leader to the country will become a vital step on the path of development of friendly relations and give new impulse to their intensification.  

During the meeting, the parties discussed the opportunities of political-diplomatic dialogue, reiterated the closeness of standpoints of the two states on current issues of global agenda.  The two countries attach great importance to the strengthening of peace and security, sustainable development, struggle with the threats and challenges of modern times.  It was noted that the parties will actively cooperate further in the framework of international organizations, primarily the UN.   

Also, the Heads of States spoke about the process of collaboration in trade-economic sphere.  The opportunities of extending the dialogue in the area of education, science and high technologies, as well as tourism were considered.  The parties also talked about strengthening of cultural-humanitarian ties between the two countries.   

The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also had a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore Mr. Lee Hsien Loong.  During the talks, the parties noted the strengthening of collaboration in the external economy sphere.  It was noted that the priority vectors of Turkmen-Singapore cooperation are energy, oil and gas sphere, transport and communications, banking sector and textile industry. 

Upon the outcomes of the negotiations, a comprehensive package of bilateral documents between the ministries and agencies of Turkmenistan and Singapore was signed, particularly in the sphere of facilitation of the visa system, prevention of double taxation, cooperation in the area of law, financial-banking activities, chemical and textile industries.          

In the framework of the visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Singapore, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore Mr. Vivian Balakrishnan. During the meeting, the diplomats discussed bilateral relations, key aspects of the international agenda, as well as the opportunities for the development of cooperation between the external policy agencies of two countries.   

Also in the framework of the state visit, a business-forum was held in participation of the representatives of state and private sectors of Turkmenistan and Singapore. During the event, the participants of the Forum got acquainted with the opportunities of carrying out the trade and commercial activities in both countries.
