Turkmenistan celebrates International Neutrality Day

“December 12, 1995 is inscribed in the history of our country as a particularly important historical event. 24 years ago, Turkmenistan acquired the legal status of permanent neutrality. During this short in historical standards period, our state has accumulated valuable experience in building friendly relations with the countries of the planet and authoritative organizations in the name of ensuring peace, security, sustainable development, and the formation of effective vectors of international cooperation,” says President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in his congratulatory Address. 

According to the President of Turkmenistan, opening the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in Ashgabat has increased the authority of Turkmenistan as a country that actively implements the initiatives and programmes of the Commonwealth of the Nations for maintaining peace all around the world. In 2015, at the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Resolution “On the Legal Status of Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan” was re-adopted that increased the authority of our state as a country that comprehensively strengthens peaceful, friendly and mutually beneficial relations, a reliable partner and a peacekeeping center. 

“Next year – in 2020, an important event of the international significance will be celebrated at the high level - the 25th anniversary of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, committed to the principles of peace, goodwill, humanism, mutually beneficial cooperation with the countries of the world and authoritative organizations. 

“Neutrality has become an effective mechanism for our domestic and foreign policy, it enriches international relations and determines their directions. We focus our policy, aimed at peacekeeping, creativity and progress to achieve our main goal - to ensure the integrated development of the independent state. We successfully modernize all spheres of the national economy, transfer to the digital system. 

“We pay particular importance to strengthening and deepening relations in the spheres of policy, economy, science, education, culture with such authoritative structures as the United Nations Organizations, the European Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Non-Aligned Movement, with the countries of the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Europe and America. The initiatives that we put forward at the sessions of the UN General Assembly and international forums on water, energy and transport diplomacy strengthens the political confidence of the world community in Turkmenistan. The adoption of the Resolution “2021 - International Year of Peace and Confidence” at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly on the initiative of Turkmenistan demonstrated our efforts in the name of establishing peace and friendship. 

In conclusion, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov wished the people of Turkmenistan good health, wellbeing, happy life, and great achievements in the name of prosperity of the Motherland.
