A separate topic of the Turkmen-Russian negotiations on the top level became the cooperation of Turkmenistan and Russia for the purposes of the developments in Central Asia. As it was noted by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the two countries are gradually working to ensure durable peace, stability and security here. It meets mutual strategic interests, and such interaction is an important factor in achievement of this objective.

Turkmenistan holds in respect and understanding for the interests of Russia in Central Asia – political, economic, humanitarian, considers the Russian approaches to the developments in the region as stabilizing, imparting stability and harmony to it, the Turkmen leader said.

The Turkmen party is ready for the continuation of close and systematic political-diplomatic cooperation with Russia in this sphere, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated, highly appreciating the shown mutual understanding and the efficiency of political consultations on the situation in Central Asia, held in this year’s February in Ashgabat.

Our country attaches importance to continue the concerned discussion of the Afghan problem with Russia, where the parties’ objectives are also congruent. Both Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation stand for an early settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, the national reconciliation in this country exceptionally by political-diplomatic means, ask it for peaceful and stable, full-scale, equitable partner and participant of regional and international economic processes.

During the talks, it was emphasized the intention to maintain further bilateral contacts in the direction of Afghanistan through the interaction between the Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and Russia.

Turkmen and Russian leaders review the role of Caspian Sea in versatile cooperation

Speaking at the extended high-level talks, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted the importance of Turkmen – Russian cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats as important factor of making Caspian Sea to the place of peace, good-neighbourliness, harmony and beneficial partnership.

Plenty has been done in this direction recently. Joint work for Convention on the Status of Caspian Sea is coming to an end, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, having expressed his hope that it would be signed at the next V Summit of Caspian States.

Today, the role of Caspian Basin as large transportation hub is growing significantly. This is a strategic vector that opens perspectives of consolidation of trade and economic relations both between Caspian states and under the context of exit to external markets. Transport component of cooperation requires solid legal base.

In this regards, Turkmenistan stands for adoption of pentalateral agreements on trade and economic and transport cooperation in Caspian Sea and hopes that these documents will be signed at the V Summit of Caspian States.

Turkmenistan also thinks it is important to continue constructive and good-neighbourly cooperation under the Commonwealth of the Independent States.
