MEETING OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN WITH THE HEAD OF THE CENTRAL BANK OF AFGHANISTAN

On September 2, 2020, a videoconference meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Acting Chairman of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ajmal Ahmadi.

During the constructive meeting, the parties focused on the need to further strengthen and develop ties across all ranges of mutually beneficial Turkmen-Afghan cooperation.

As is known, Turkmenistan invariably stands for the creation of the necessary socio-economic, infrastructural and other vital conditions for the Afghan people. Along with international initiatives aimed at general stability and solidarity, the Turkmen state systematically implements large-scale promising projects with the participation of Afghanistan for the full integration of the neighboring state into the channel of stable development.

In this context, it is important to highlight the projects of the TAPI gas pipeline and the TAP power transmission line, as well as the implementation of the Lapis Lazuli project, where the parties have enormous potential for successful implementation and reaching a qualitatively new level of socio-economic development.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on the activation of the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project. Against the background of the above, it is important to note that the parties have recently made significant progress in this direction by signing a Memorandum of Understanding on the selection of land plots on the Afghan part of the TAPI highway, which will give a significant impetus to the intensification of work in the territory of Afghanistan.
