Turkmen parliamentarians take part in the UN Internet Governance Forum
Representatives of the Mejlis took part in the Parliamentary Online Roundtable meeting today as part of the Fifteenth Annual Meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) will be hosted online by the United Nations (IGF).
The event, organized in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union IGF 2020, brought together members of parliament from all parts of the world to discuss the role of Internet technology in improving the lives and well-being of people and, in particular, the ways to build confidence during and after COVID-19.
The very fact of participation of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan in IGF events testifies to the recognition of the achievements of our country in the development of the information society and digital technologies.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov outlined digitalization as a priority factor to address systemic issues in the national economy, which means improving the living standards of the population.
As highlighted, the Forum stands as a modern platform to exchange the best practices to promote strengthening the legislative framework for Internet governance at the national level.
In this context, it was noted that at present, Turkmenistan systematically conducted programmatic work on the transition to the digital economy, including ensuring legal regulation in this area.
It should be noted that the Concept for the Development of the Digital Economy in Turkmenistan for 2019-2025 was approved by the Resolution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
During the meeting, the role of information technology in improving the efficiency of social management was emphasized. Thus, the use of IT technologies in improving the processes of adaptation of people to the conditions of modern life, etc. were specified among the important areas.
This year, the annual meeting of the Internet Governance Forum is hosted by the United Nations under the overarching theme Internet for human resilience and solidarity.
