THE DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN TOOK PART IN 65TH SESSION OF THE UN COMMISSION ON NARCOTIC DRUGS

The delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan, took part in the 65th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs in a hybrid format, which was held from 14 to 18 March 2022. Turkmenistan is a member of this Commission for 2020-2023.

The Commission on Narcotic Drugs hold its 65th session with some 1,400 participants from 128 countries, 19 inter-governmental organizations and 72 non-governmental organizations coming together to discuss emerging drug control issues and the implementation of international drug policy commitments.

The session was opened by the leaders of ECOSOC, UNODC, WHO, INCB and UNAIDS, who highlighted the important role of the CND in implementing and improving international norms for the global control of narcotic drugs.

Speaking about countering narcotics, Delegation of Turkmenistan emphasized that Turkmenistan has identified one of the priority tasks in its policy is a tough and uncompromising fight against illicit drug trafficking.

The participants were briefly informed about the ongoing works in this area, about educational work among the population, especially among young people, in close cooperation with international and public organizations.

The positive role of our country in the active promotion of international and regional cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking was also noted. In addition to participating in joint projects and programs implemented in the Central Asian region through the UN, European Union, OSCE and other international structures, Turkmenistan is a venue for major multilateral forums and meetings dedicated to anti-drug issues.

In continuation of this successful practice, the intention of Turkmenistan to host the 55th session of the Subcommission on Illicit Drug Trafficking and Related Matters in the Near and Middle East in November of this year was informed.

The Commission considered the draft resolutions, on which appropriate decisions were taken.
