MEETING OF THE ACTING MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN WITH THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF PAKISTAN

On March 22, 2022, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a bilateral meeting in Islamabad with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Makhdum Shah Mahmood Qureshi, during which the ministers discussed the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral relations.

R. Meredov emphasized that relations with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan are one of the priorities of Turkmenistan's foreign policy. Pakistan was one of the first states to establish diplomatic relations with Turkmenistan (May 9, 1992) and actively supported the neutrality of Turkmenistan.

The acting head of the foreign policy department of Turkmenistan stressed the need to further develop trade and economic ties with Pakistan, and in this context noted the need to intensify the work of the Turkmen-Pakistani Joint Intergovernmental Commission, and proposed holding its next meeting in 2022 in Islamabad.

The diplomats discussed in detail the progress of the implementation of major joint projects: the TAPI gas pipeline, TAP power transmission lines and fiber optic communications.
