THE DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN DURING THE VISIT TO BRUSSELS HELD A NUMBER OF MEETINGS WITH THE HEADS OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
The delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiyev, within the framework of its visit to Brussels on May 16, held bilateral meetings with the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization Mr. Kunio Mikuriya, the Secretary General of the Energy Charter Secretariat Mr. Guy Lentz, and also with the Managing Director for Russia, Eastern partnership, Central Asia, Regional cooperation and OSCE of the European External Action Service, Mr. Michael Siebert.
At the meeting with the head of the World Customs Organization, issues of developing cooperation between Turkmenistan and this specialized structure and the joint practical steps necessary in this regard were discussed. In particular, attention was paid to the implementation of the agreements reached during the meeting of the President of Turkmenistan with the Secretary General in January 2019, regarding the expansion of the legal framework for cooperation, the prospects for opening the WCO Regional Training Center in Ashgabat, interaction in the field of digitalization of customs procedures and other issues.
As part of the dialogue with the Secretary General of the Energy Charter Secretariat, the parties discussed the progress in the process of modernizing the Charter, intensifying the previously laid down cooperation to create a legal framework for the international transit of energy resources, the possibility of expanding partnerships in the field of energy efficiency and issues of the interregional energy agenda.
During the meeting with representatives of the European External Action Service, the delegations discussed a wide range of issues related to the further development of cooperation between Ashgabat and Brussels in bilateral and multilateral formats, in particular, preparations for the next meeting of the EU-Central Asia High-Level political and security dialogue on May 17 in Brussels. The Turkmen side paid special attention to the development of partnerships in the field of energy, transport, environmental protection, education and culture.
