MEETING OF THE INTER-DEPARTMENTAL COMMISSION ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF INTERNATIONAL OBLIGATIONS OF TURKMENISTAN HELD IN THE MFA
On February 19, 2020, the meeting of the Inter-departmental Commission on the Implementation of International Obligations of Turkmenistan in the area of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and in participation of the representatives of the international organizations.
The heads and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, heads of the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, the National Society of Red Crescent of Turkmenistan, Ombudswoman of Turkmenistan, as well as the representatives of public and international organizations, in particular the UN and its specialized agencies, OSCE participated to the event.
Being the Chairman of the Inter-departmental Commission, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R.Meredov explained in his address the scope of the vast work realized by Turkmenistan on the implementation of its international obligations in the area of human rights and international humanitarian law.
Expressing gratitude for the invitation to take part in the given meeting, the representatives of international organizations stated the high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and international organizations in the area of protection of human rights, including the vulnerable layers of population. The participants of the session noted the significance of the Commission in the process of preparing the national programmes, plans and laws in the area of human rights protection, exchanged views, recommendations and proposals.
In this context, the importance of the National Action Plan on the provision of gender equality for 2015-2020, National Action Plan in the field of human rights for 2016-2020, National Action Plan on countering the human trafficking for 2016-2020, National Action Plan on the Implementation of Children’s Rights in Turkmenistan for 2018-2022, as well as the National Strategy of Turkmenistan on the early development of a child for the period of 2020-2025 was stated.
One more important topic of discussion was the enhancement of human rights awareness, including the issues of joining the international conventions and their facultative protocols by Turkmenistan.
Summarizing the session, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan called the international organizations to continue active cooperation with Turkmenistan in the area of human rights and international humanitarian law.
